Anyone have a chord chart for Sand the Hawaiian classic?
***I have the tablature ***for B11 lap steel but I'll be playing with some ukulele players looking for a chord chart.
Thanks in advance for any help out there! |

Basil Henriques shared a copy of the "Steelin' Tricks Of The Trade" where Jules Ah See's Sand is the main article.
There is Tab, Lyrics and Chords
The main thread is about Sand in C6, but as Basil puts it
I really think that the C6th is NOT suited to a comprehensive version of this SONG..
It's on the old forum and dates from 2005...

I've read this topic before and it didn't "CLICK" with me until I just read it again.
It suggests that Basil's outstanding tab write-up and very thorough explaination of Jules Ah See's version of SAND was done with the C6 tuning--even though a disclaimer was repeated in a quote by Basil, that the C6 was not suited for it. I think this is a misinterpretation and/or confusing, as it infers that the whole song was done in C6--actually Cmaj9.
The Cmaj9 is only used in it's open tuning form in a individual string "pick-out" or "upward strum"--3 TIMES in the whole song! The MAJORITY of the rest of the song is done with the B11 tuning. So, this was a planned 2 tuning arrangement by Jules for SAND on the HAWAIIAN SHORES LP. If I had to assign percentages for how much each of the 2 tunings were played--each of the Cmaj9 3 strums would be 1%, which would be 3%, and then the remainder of the song being played would be 97% done on the B11.
Also, Basil provides the CHORD LINE for Jules' highly regarded difinitive arrangement of SAND--found on the HAWAIIAN SHORES LP. I don't know if the steel player in the YOUTUBE mentioned, is following the same chord line. |
