For many years I have used a small BOSS BR recorder to grab licks off CDs and the web - to play back in slow down mode to learn them... the BOSS still works great, unfortunately it uses no longer produced data cards for storage -- the largest of which is only 128mb -- very limiting...
I'd be grateful for any suggestions to replace the BOSS with a device with decent on-board storage so I can keep a library of licks and tunes.
I don't intend to make home recordings, etc... just capture phrases, licks, riffs and be able to play them back while I learn them...
Thanks

Zoom and others make several that you might like. Just go to any of the online music stores (Musicians Friend, Sweetwater, etc), or even Amazon.com. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . The greatest tool I know of for this kind of work is the very affordable computer app called:
Amazing Slow Downer
It's great. You can alter pitch and or tempo separately. You can loop sections of a song to really focus on a part. It's an invaluable tool that's easy to use.

Amazing Slowdowner is what I use. It's great.
I misunderstood your question. I thought you were looking for something to record things and the play them back. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . ..thanks everyone...I am a long time user of computer based slow downers... in this case I'm after a device that doesn't need a computer or internet link to work...this is the unit I want to replace....again, it works great - but has no internal storage - uses obsolete data cards..

Oops --never mind.
I like the Amazing Slow Downer a lot (I am more of a banjo player if that matters) but I recently won a free copy of Riffstation after listening to Bryan Daste's pedal steel podcast [url=https://pedalsteelpodcast.wordpress.com//url]
While I havent used it much yet, it looks kind of interesting. The chord suggestion feature does not seem to work but it has the ability to not only pull out the steel solo, you can also pull out the backing without the steel solo if you want to try inserting your version of the part.
You can hear Bryan's review on the podcast, or check out their website if you're interested.
All the best

Check out the Tascam GB-10
http://tascam.com/product/gb-10/
Has internal storage, slow down or speed up, loop, pitch shift, metronome, tuner and some effects.
Runs a long time on AA batteries and priced reasonably. |

Seeing Michael is asking for a recorder to replace his Boss unit, I would recommend looking at the Zoom R8...SD cards..USB, 8 track record, ( 2x at a time), records in industry common WAV format and you can change the track BPM as required. _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

do you have an iPhone/smart phone?
Amazing Slow Downer is, well, amazing!
and, imo, the functionality is even better on a phone than on a computer. well worth whatever the price was...
