Hi Gang...

We Have Lift Off!

When I got home tonight I took a couple of different sized wound guitar strings and dressed the Nut and the Saddles. (tapering the slots towards the tuners and the tail piece)

The strings now ring true and the banjo tone is gone!

Ok now does the Dobro sound like an expensive top end one? Of course not.

On down the road i will spend some "time" tinkering with the guitar to see if I can improve the sound.

Will I spend more money...

(aside from buying new tuners)

Nope

I'm going to spend my money on some on line lessons
and/or dvds.

I will play this low end guitar until I learn how to play it then I'll get a better one!

Back in the middle 60's I learned how to play guitar on an Airline (from Wards) Arch Top and a Kent Electric 12 string guitar (that I played with 6 strings)that had such bad action that doing a Barre Chord past the 5th fret required a C Clamp!

This Dobro I have now is better than those guitars.
(ok not miles better...but better)

So now I am off to play the thing instead of
playing around with it!

Thanks everyone for your assistance!

Russ

Good luck Russ. (As you know), you don't have to have expensive instruments to learn and have fun!

I'm glad you are on the road to playing!

Also, you know a bunch more about your chosen instrument than the average guy.

Best of luck to you, Russell.
