Paul Beard makes a very nice eight string reso. OMI/ Gibson/Dobro also had one but I don't know if they still do. Another very nice eight string is Melobro/ Melobar.

This should get you started. There are others also. I have played the dobro brand and found it ok but not worth opening my wallet.

Your best value would be the Melobro.
I own a 1990 8 string wood Dobro and a recent 8 string fiberglass Melobro. The Melobro is the better sounding instrument.It has a rich deep sound. The Dobro is a bit too bright.
My 6 string Bobby Wolfe mahagony reso is the best and the most expensive.
My advice,the Melobro is very reasonably priced and the quality is near custom.

This site sells many different models. It also has quite a bit of information on dobro's. Mickey Cochran owns the store and is quite a nice guy, and a fine crosspicker to boot.
