I recorded this quick demo this morning of Willie's classic tune, but it's been running through my head for a few days.

Both steel tracks were recorded with my 'Leo Meets Paul' D10 Clinesmith. It was re-imagined as a gospel-inspired version, and how I imagine Donny Hathaway would have performed.

Very soulful, Mike. I really enjoyed that. Reminds me of '60s soul. Nice job on the vocals. I wish I could sing like that!

Thanks, Doug. I have a voice built for rock, but my real love is R&B and Soul, even Gospel. I will never stop trying to sing it, though. It's really hard for me to listen to myself singing it, because I'm so used to listening to the best, but I had to get past that.

Anyway, this is how I like to play the steel most: as an accompaniment instrument, but taking the place of piano and guitar. I like trios!

I couldn't live with the vocal in the track, so I had to recut it using my natural singing voice. I know, don't quit my day job. Laughing

The original link should still work.

Sorry! We can't find that track.
Did you try to access a private track, but were not logged in?
Maybe the track has been removed.

Very churchy; the 'organ' got me right off, and you play as good as Bishop Hall! Nice soulful rendition.

I love the voice; very pleasant surprise. Yeah, you can tell, the song's been on your mind, mine too.
I don't know; quit your day job. Oh, this is your day job.
That chord on (I'm sorry I was) blind, and also time perfect with the vocal. Very fine.

Thanks, Charlie. The steel guitar for me is like my little 'lap piano/organ'. And yes, I do have a day job. I would never be able to raise my family without it (3 kids, one in college, yada yada).

These days, I let the Muses guide me, although Mneme has not been kind to me. That's OK with me, I don't like to look backward anymore.

I had to get the bass to find the bridge chord, where the two minor becomes the third of an F11 (on a wet fretless).
You get a good bass sound. I'm tempted to send the song link to someone, you interpret it well with your voice.

Mneme.. Mneme.. memory escapes me....
