I asked Mike Johnson which he prefers, and it was nickel. I'm going to have to try some.

Sounds unanimous. Why the clear nickel preference? What's the tonal advantage? Just curious Very Happy

It looks likes no one so far would give you a nickel for stainless steel strings. Laughing

I guess I'm the odd man out here. I've used nothing but the stainless, and really like them. However, I've never tried the nickel.. Maybe I should!!!

....nickel for me as well...just a personal preference...no reflection on anyone else at all.

My 2 cents, YMMV.

I actually used stainless for years. The Live Steel Strings stainless string are so fresh, they are almost too bright. It takes a while for them to settle in. But, in the band I am in now, I am right next to the bass player and my steel tone kind of gets lost in the mixture of bass and steel. I may try stainless to see if I can cut through better.

richard, i've had that problem before too and in a couple bands i finally just had to move to the other side of the stage to get away from the bass.

That's not an option Chris. Lead guitar/keyboard player uses up the other side of the stage.

I went from Live Steel Nickel strings to Jagwire Stainless.
On my JCH the Jagwires sound much nicer. Even the unwound strings.

There is less drag on the bar with nickel strings.
