I've got a lady friend who loves the steel guitar and country music almost as much as she loves cats.
feel free to post any pics or stories of your cat's steel guitar adventures in this here thread.
any country songs that mention cats will also be very much appreciated. I have quite a list going already... _________________ 1965 Emmons S-10, 3x5 • Emmons LLIII D-10, 10x12 • JCH D-10, 10x12 • Beard MA-8 • Oahu Tonemaster

My cat Franzel, whose no longer with me, was my biggest fan. He would listen to me, with his head lying on one of his front legs. I sometimes played only because I thought he liked it. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

My cat Dillweed, who is no longer with me, laid on top of my steel a few times. I think he thought of my steel as a cat bed |

My cat is a rescue who I adopted as an adult so I had no opportunity to acclimate her to my life. She takes what she likes and she leaves the rest.
She leaves the room quickly when I make the first sound on a steel. I try to not feel totally dissed. |

b0b - That's a great pic!
Jon - So what you are saying is that your cat cares as much for your playing as she does the vacuum cleaner? |

I can usually find the cat within 5 minutes after I've stopped playing. More like two hours after the vacuum. But a steel guitar never sucked up her face. |

I had a Calico cat named Puss-Irving who loved playing with my steel. I'd turn on the C6th neck, hit the volume a little, and she'd go to town. Only problem with that is, she sounded better on C6th than I ever did!

Maybe this thread should be retitled 'Nashville Cats'. My cats have always been true appreciators of Hawaiian steel guitar music. _________________ "Be Kind to Animals, don't eat Them"

I've had cats for all 35+ yrs I've been playing steel. None have ever showed an interest in listening to me play. As with most things I blame it on right hand technique.... |

Never fails. I sit down to practice and the cats run out of the room before the first note is played. |

My cats were not amazed by my steel playing for some reason. When both my cats Dillweed and Tinkerbell were alive, they would run any time I started to play. Tinkerbell's favorite place to sleep was always in the guest bedroom of my house, and at one time, my Jackson Steel was in there. Everytime I would go in there to play steel, Tinkerbell would wake up when she saw me coming, walk to the edge of the bed, jump down off the bed when I'd turn the amp on, look up at the steel guitar, and then she'd meow and go into another room. When I wasn't playing, Dillweed would jump onto my steel and lay on the fretboard, thinking it was his cat bed. |
