Here's my take on the classic "Sand". Just finished recording this today. I hope you like it.

---->click it---> https://soundcloud.com/doug-beaumier/sand-steel-guitar

FYI: I'm still working on my third lap steel song book. As usual, I underestimated the amount of time it would take to do. I'll just say what I said a couple of months ago... "a couple more months". Cool Thanks

Great song Doug. Was that played on your Guyatone?

NICELY DONE, Doug! Love those big, fat chords. And we can all take a lesson from your great intonation. Good ear!

Thanks, yes, it's a Guyatone console with only 6 strings on the rear neck for this project... songs for 6-string lap steel. This particular arrangement is played on 5 strings only.

Man! This is too good. I could listen to it all day.

Very nice arrangement, exquisite playing, and excellent backup.

Mix is perfect to my ear.

Glad this one will be in the book.

Thanks Jack, I'm glad you like it. I'm pretty happy with it. I'll probably remix it though and bring the backing instruments up a little more.

I always enjoy your music Doug! The mix and tone sounds perfect. How do you record your steel, direct or mic the amp? What effects or plugins do you use? Great job.

Thanks Greg! I record direct. Steel --> black box --> Nashville 112 (preamp section only, line out) --> Hilton volume pedal --> Holy Grail reverb --> into computer, using Audacity. I monitor through small powered speakers. For some slow songs I include a Boss delay in the chain. If I'm going for an "old time" sound, like in this recording, I usually play the Guyatone steel guitar. It has a raw and raspy tone that is not found in modern steels, and it's good for recreating vintage tones IMO. Bass and drums are band-in-a-box. I add live rhythm guitar (telecaster) and uke (Rode USB mic). Thanks again.

Thanks Stephen. Do you still have your Guyatone? I think you bought my brown D-8 Guyatone a few years ago...?

Nope, wasn't me that bought it. Must be another Stephen on the Forum who bought it. Must say that I love the tone/sound of the Guyatones though.

Thanks, now I know I've bought and sold too much stuff. I can't remember where I got guitars or who I sold them to, or even IF I had them! Shocked Cool

Thanks, yes, I remember that blonde one. It was just like the one I have now. But the one I was thinking of was a brown D-8 I had for a while and sold to a Forum member. I think I've had three of these Guyatone consoles and a few of the G'tone lap steels. The consoles sound a little fuller than the lap steels IMO. The pickups seem to be a little better in the consoles.
