Solid and reliable pedal steel guitar. Holds tune very well. Single neck, ten string. This is the standard E-9th tuning, with three pedals and three knee levers. The letters on the fretboard are stick-on and removable, they were there to help me learn, now I'm ready to move on to a double neck, so this is your chance to get a great pedal steel, with a sweet tone. (Keep the letters on if it helps, then when you're ready to fly free, take those suckers off!) Aluminum frame and legs, which both adjust for height and fold for storage. Factory lined case is included.
Includes packing and shipping costs to the Lower 48 US states. Check or money order only, please.
(Purchased on the Forum two years ago and itching to upgrade to a double-neck from another Forum member. Hope it is okay to re-post the original photos. If that's wrong, I'll take some new ones. The steel hasn't left my studio since I've owned it.)

That's way more guitar than the price indicates. Emmons set up solid as a rock. J Wright does quiet
well with a Sierra. Kevin is solid as the guitar.

Thanks for those kind words, Joey. Loved every minute of playing (your former) Sierra, now it's time to move on to a D-10! It sure will be missed! My very first steel!

Somebody will be lucky enough to grab this deal. I have the 12-string version of this vintage Sierra. Folding legs, key headstock, slide-out pickups. Mine's about 1978 or so. Style-wise its the coolest looking Sierra, to me anyway. Lots of players don't like the unusual look of these but that's their loss. Sit down and play one, then decide. Arguably, they were "over-engineered" and sadly, now discontinued. The workmanship, design and sound of these is first rate. A little heavy but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

John, Thanks for posting your twelve-er. What a beaut! Thanks, too, for reminding me about the pick-up feature. Has a slide-out slot so you can easily swap out a new or different one without taking ten (or twelve) strings off.
And the weight? I agree, it isn't that much an issue and may just add to the quality of the sound. This is my first steel so I'm no authority, but I know that my heavier Tele's all seem to have a better sound to them. (Even if I have to sit down after an hour of playing!) And the folding legs are another great feature. The only other one I've ever set up and played had the screw-in legs which can be a bit of a pain under low-light or four beer conditions. With the Sierra design, you just open the case, lift all four legs until they lock in place, secure the pedal cross bar, hook in the pedal rods, stand it up and play. Couldn't be much simpler. Unless you have a roadie do it, I suppose!

Had requests for pictures of the changers undercarriage. Here it is, along with a picture of the case and one of the guitar with the legs and pedals up and mounted, ready to be lifted. Haven't weighed it but I think I've read other posts that put it around 65 lbs. Feels about right. Sure isn't as heavy as my Quad Reverb!

| In case folks are wondering, Sierra steel guitars sound great. Not only are they designed and built like a Mercedes, they play smoothly and sound real good. I perform most of my gigs with my Zum S12U but I frequently pack up the Sierra and play it. No issues, no faults. It's pedals and undercarriage are super quiet and the action of the pedals and KLs is great. One clue as to the quality of these guitars is the roller nut, it's about twice the diameter as all other brands. Also the pedal rack is extruded aluminum as are the body parts. No "cabinet flex" on these. My SD12 weighs about as much as most other brands of D-10. Sure, it's a little heavier, but just man up and lift it or get help ;~). |
