Just got a late 70s LTD 400 from CL. It needed some repair, fuse, pigtail, main caps. What an interesting amp. I have the Session 400 and wanted to leave it at church while I use the LTD for gigs and such as it is smaller/easier to carry and the same electronics. As expected LTD doesnt have big bottom as Session but it does seem to have a nice focused sound. Tight. Also, speaker is odd. It seems to be a 1501 as it is not ribbed but it doesnt have aluminum dust cover. Voice coil is a bit larger as well. It is most def a black widow super structure. Numbers must have fell off or taken off. My thought is no aluminum dust cover probably good, amp wants more bass right? Anyway, looking forward to playing out with it soon. Cant believe how small a package it is. Tall and narrow. Weighs about as much as my Special 130. Love the tone. Nice thick and bright. Total 350$ into it. What a value these old amps. Anyone else have the speaker w/o aluminum dust cover? Dont see many. All seem to have aluminum. Great amp either way.

I suspect it's not the original speaker. that amp does not have compression which tends to protect the speaker, I have heard that some late lTD's were shipped with bass speakers like the 1502 and that amp is transistor and very bright anyway. I have one and installed the light weight EPS15C Eminence and is rated
at 350 watts I believe.

Yeah, I am kinda glad it is a bass type speaker. Probably not a bad thing at all. Voice coil is huge. Bigger than my 1501 and Eps15. I have yet to take out and test in real world but I have a feeling it will be great.LTD is such a small cab could benefit from more bass. If it aint broke dont fix it I suppose. Thanks for reply.

Best steel amp Peavey ever made but I do like them better with the JBL, D-130 I believe. Tried the Telonics and the Black Widow and think the JBL sounds best, just me.

Yeah I just had to have one of these. My budget is pretty tight these days so these old Peaveys are just the ticket. Great tone for low $. Would love to get something fancier down the road but will never get rid of my old Peaveys. I kinda get a kick out of bringing these amps around. All the hipster guys at church just look so funny at my old rusty beat up Session 400! I have the ugliest amp onstage but make the prettiest sounds! kinda funny. Having both Session and LTD is cool. Had to put some money into both of them to get them up to date, but still came out pretty good. I am gonna leave the speaker alone as I am tapped out money wise. just glad to have this amp. Maybe down the road experiment with speakers.
