I'll be I staying at the Metro Hotel in Haight Ashbury on these dates. "Club Deluxe" looks like it has potential. We want to hear some jazz (no fusion) and hoped to get some input from players in the SF Bay Area. We have wheels, so we can travel. Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi Tim,

When you get to town, pick up a copy of the S.F. Weekly. The Deluxe does often have some jazz. Bigger venues are Yoshi's and the new S.F. Jazz Center. Good luck. I'll be at Amoeba Music (a block from where you're staying) on Thursday from 11:00am to 1:30, and then I'm off the next two days, if you want to see a great record store.

Joe

Club Deluxe is a good choice, depending on who's playing. There are a few clubs in the Mission district which could be interesting.

Savanna Jazz in the Mission would be one suggestion. The Revolution Cafe frequently has jazz groups among its performers. Amnesia has jazz pretty regularly.

I would recommend Doc's Lab in North Beach, but they just have comedians booked for the time you'll be here.

Definitely stop by Amoeba Records while you're in town.

Thanks for the recommendations! I was hoping there might be some PSG Jazz in town! We're going to Club Deluxe and SFJAZZ for sure. Visiting my son for a few days and our mutual love of music is jazz. I can't take the high energy R&R and he can't deal with "sad" country music! LOL! How can anyone not love good jazz?

If you want some steel guitar jazz and you're here on Thursday, head over to Berkeley. The Mikiya Matsuda Trio is playing at Townie. He's really good!

My friend Mike Groh plays guitar in a Gypsy Jazz band called Gaucho that plays at Amnesia's on Wednesday nights. If you're lucky maybe Bobby Black will be playing somewhere while you're in town.
