Out here in the west, for many years we had no access to names of the many top session players.
Names like Chet Atkins and Leon McAuliff were familiar however the musicians that made a career of backing the nations' top recording artists from the later 1940's thro' 1950's were largely unknown.
Steel players with Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas and countless others to this day remain nothing but familiar musical sounds........without a name.
Would there be any interest in starting a continuing post where steel players music and/photo's could be posted to help educate some of the rest of us? |

There would be for me, not knowing so many of them.
This would be a good place to archive such knowledge. _________________ Those that say don't know; those that know don't say.--Buddy Emmons |

As a younger guy I would love something where certain players are posted and then examples or youtube links are provided to give examples of their best work or particular sounds. But yeah I'm a big fan of music history so any pics or stories would be great. |

Here's a good list for you Ray... You can sort it by Artist, Song Title, or Steel Player:
http://louisvillesteelguitar.com/artist_song_list.htm
Maybe change the title of the thread to "Need a List of Steel Players" or something like that???
Just a thought. |
