I could be mistaken but I think Buddy Emmons and Bud Carter were the original designers of that particular guitar _________________ S12 MSA Classic Nashville 400 with fox mods amp 1 volume pedal 1 Lil Izzy and 3 cords |

Bud Carter started building them in Waco then moved to the Dallas area. At some point in time Buddy Emmons came on board and that's when they changed the name to EMCI. MCI I do believe stands for MusiCon Industries. _________________ Where do you want it?

The welded frame (E)MCI's are considered quite good by many players. A very good changer, little cabinet drop and sharp tone that tends toward an Emmons, in my opinion. The original Barcus Berry pickup left something to be desired, and the right moving knee levers might be sturdier (I believe Mike Cass replaced them with Emmons items on his MCI). Mine has been improved with bellcranks and rods like Frank Carter makes for his Infinity. Nine slots allow you to time the pulls better. You can also got springs and brackets from Michael Yahl for adjustable return springs. And there's also an extra finger and spring you can use to make "feel stops". |

I think that Roy Thomas (Pedalmaster Guitars) bought the MCI parts and the seller didn't want him using the MCI name. Could be wrong, but Roy has since retired and is no longer building. _________________ Mullen G2 SD10 3 & 5 The Eagle

Owned one MCI with E66 pickups on both necks. One of the best sounding steels I ever owned. My only complaint was the pedal style with the ball joint on top. |

I have an EMCI. And the EMCI was built by Bud and Buddy. It was built to Buddy's specs. My EMCI was one of a few custom built guitars. That were built for Sarah Jory, Jimmy Day, Curley Chalker. The one I own belong to Ron Elliott of the Forum. Best sounding guitar I have ever owned. Puts my old Emmons P/P to shame.
