I've been thinking of an alternative to (a) buying new split cases or (b) continuing to throw my back out schlepping around a D10. So I thought, what would a redneck do? Answer: carry the pedal bar, legs, rods and leg sack in one of those nylon sacks (with a drawstring and shoulder strap) from a Wal-Mart lawn chair that's now busted (the chair, not the sack) and carry the body of the guitar by itself in the original case, which is now 15 pounds lighter. So that's what I did and, Voila! Redneck split cases!
But Wait! There's more! If you decide you still want to throw your back out for some reason, you can stuff the pedal bar and leg sack -- chair sack and all -- into the original guitar case. _________________ Drew Pierce

I've been using a Martin Backpacker gig bag...while my Backpacker sits home naked. I'll probably buy a replacement eventually. http://www.jdmc.com/product/12BBP.html
The pedal bar will fit in, but just barely, so I leave that in the case with the guitar. Everything else goes in the gig bag....the legs are the bulk of the additional weight, and the volume pedal. Tone bar is in a padded pouch. I throw in the cables and effect pedal as well. As often as not, I end up carrying the case in one hand and the gig bag in the other, but at least the weight is evenly distributed.

I did the same thing when I had a LTD D10. I used a Jr Bow soft case. Works great.

I got a split case set up a few years ago. The problem I found was that every year the case the steel is in seems to get heavier. I'm sure the years have nothing to do with it. |

I'm away from my guitars and looking at some used gig bags. Can somebody give me the dimensions for the pedal rack on a D-10 PP? I'd be much abliged. _________________ Drew Pierce
