A while back, I posted some questions about an old basket case >>> http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=272679&highlight=

Using much of the advice I got here on the forum, she's up and running.

Features: Mounted a chunk of lumber where the missing 2nd neck would've been in order to be able to mount a third, back leg.
The legs are made from extendable closet hangers, hardware store parts.
Wired the pickups in the manner suggested, the boowah tone knob, old knobs off a radio or something.
Found a reasonable facsimile for the one busted lollypop tuner.
There are 2 small holes that where drilled (not by me) thru the tuning pan and thru the body. A previous owner must of had some kind of string puller mounted thru the body. I might try that with a bicycle brake cable or something.
A sheet metal pal of mine made 2 diamond shaped covers for the front.
So thanks to all who gave me great advice, this old 55 is up & running & making a most joyful noise!
Full speed ahead! Smile

Could you write a few groups concerning the legs. How you handled the sockets. Where you purchased them. Perhaps a picture or two. Etc. Etc.

good its back on the air!

looks like you anchored the piece of wood using the original holes for the threaded metal stock that originally held the body together whether it was a double triple or quad.

did you consider making a padded arm rest instead of just a piece of wood? that might have been nice to do.

Yes Bill, thats exactly what I did. I didn't consider an arm rest but did consider a wider piece of wood, like an arm rest, in order to set my lap steel on. Still might do that however my pal Stevie says then I'd have to wear a cape while playing a double neck 8 string with a 6 string lap steel. Laughing
The legs came from the big box hardware store. They are expandable closet hanger rods, under $7 each. Like a shower curtain rod. Put a rubber tip on one end and jammed a proper threaded bolt in the other end. The front sockets on the guitar where intact, just gorilla glued a proper threaded bolt to the underside of the piece of lumber.
Super low-tech.
Got a little gig thursday night and can't wait to see what kind of looks I get! Cool

I was gonna say... looks like the legs are backwards! Perhaps you like it that way?

No, It's not left play. Remember it's missing back necks. Would've originally had 4 legs. The 2 front leg sockets face forward and I only built 1 leg, facing backward for the back. I might change it to 4 legs.
Stephen, thanks for sending that wiring diagram last year!

You know - if you simply rotate the sockets , you can get the legs working like a right play unit.

It actually will make the foot print smaller and possible more desirable.

I've done this a few times when I accidentally drilled the socket holes left instead of right. Oh Well

Your right George. I actually tried that but it meant the rear leg would have to face forward and it stood very unstable. I will probably go with 4 legs.
Thanks!

Hi Bud, that would make a nice lefty! if you are ever looking to part with it let me know! I have a nice old Fender champ 6 string you have actually played (beautifully I might add). We could try to work something out if you were interested. Not sure if you remember me but we played together a few years back. Hope you are doing well.
