We lost Larry last September to cancer. He is missed by many! He is the very reason I was able to meet most all of the Steel Guitar greats.

Larry receiving the plaque as reads:

We the people...
Of the world of the musical instrument
called the Steel Guitar, which includes
Instrument and accessory Manufacturers,
Musicians, Enthusiasts, and fans,
Would like to acknowledge and Honor

Mr. Larry Self

For his untiring efforts in spreading
the word, promoting, and preserving, for
all of us, a better environment for the
Steel Guitar !!!

Signed this day, January 20, 1991

Harold Fogle, Doug Jernigan, Bobbe Seymour, Herby Wallace

I remember him starting out at the bottom not knowing any of the huge customer/fan base he developed over the years. He sure put his heart and soul in that business and from I could tell it seemed to pay off for him. On top of it all he made a lot of life long friends. I sure do miss that guy like crazy, Happy belated birthday Larry.

I met Larry Self through my uncle Bobby Sims when he came to Rhea County and opened a music store in downtown Dayton, Tn. He put on a great steel guitar show in the Masonic Lodge in Dayton with some of the greatest steel guitar players who ever lived. He was a very kind man and a real people person. Not many men like him left in this old world. God bless Larry Self and his family.
