Mine.....(I`m just a home player but tone is very important to me)
Fender 400 longscale (reduced to 24.15") Eb9 (no string breakage and better tone IMO)
Peavy Valverb (great buffer)
Goodrich 120 (one line out to a Korg Pitchblack Portable tuner)
Hardwire Valve Distortion (for fuzz)
Boss DD—6
EHX Holy Grail
Fender FM212 (same as the Frontman) with stock speakers. I never thought I would use a SS amp, but the clean is better than the 4 tube amps I`ve had. All cables are GeorgeL with the exception of a high quality more full range cable from the guitar to the Valverb.

When I gig, I keep it spare.
Guitar, amp, volume pedal, Izzy Plus and few effects.
I have a Mahoney Buzz Tone and a Sparkle Drive for OD. I impose a 4 songs a night limit on its use.
I have and love a Mutron Phasor.
I use a Dunlop/MXR/Bradshaw resonator pedal.
If I'm playing through my Peavey, I use my Black Box always (and sometimes when I play tubes, so I can have the tone knob).
Goodrich 120 volume pedal, with an Izzy Plus on the output.
Amps (in descending order of fondness, but it's close):
Super Twin Reverb (head. Into a Sica, in a closed-back Huff cab)
Ultralinear Twin (2/12), sometimes with the HuffSica as extension.
65 Reissue Twin (with a Jensen Mod 15)
Session 400
Session 500
For steels, I have a Zum D-10, an extended E9th MSA S-12 and a Bud SD-12 under construction.

A friend told me once there are two kinds of amps. One where the guitar player can irritate a bad drummer, & vice versa. In the late 70s & early 80s, Yamaha & Roland made some nice SS amps, as did Gibson with Lab series. I like the Tech21 amps & their preamps which emulate classic amps with analog SS mosfet.

A lot of 6 string players who are effects crazy are really using their amp as a power amp. I have to say, I don't like SS amps at all in overdrive channel & not that crazy about drive channel in nice amps like my Mesa. I can never get the same kinds of sounds as the video demos.

MSA U12 or Emmons Legrande 2 into Session 400 or LTD 400. Only effect is Sarno Earth drive for lap steel sound when needed. Carry a DD2 with me but find myself not bothering with it. For me the Session and LTD get it straight away. Dont feel like I need anything else. Maybe I am missing out but I really like my tone just straight into old Session. Volume pedal is just a cheap Fender volutone. Don't care much about tubes. Tone is so good and Sarno pedal is so good I get pretty good lap steel sound. I just don't want to fool with tube amp anymore. I play every week out and just need good clean power that doesn't give me any trouble. Twin would be tops but pricey and would have to mod to lighten load. My Session has EPS 15 and is pretty easy to manage. Gets me in the ballpark I need to be in. Really happy with it.

If I’m playing in church I set up like this...once even with a third amp, a Session 400 Limited

Steel--(PRP Mullen D-10 w/Quad 705 originals)
Telonics Multi-Taper VP--
Profex ll--
Session 400 &
Session 500

I was using 2 Li’l Izzy’s before I got this steel, but find with the 705’s they are really hot and I haven’t done enough tweeting with the knobs to tame the high’s a little...Mickey Adams had this steel before me and did use the Izzy’s and I’m pretty sure I will again, just need to get readjusted to them with this steel.

Usually: Guitar to EQ set up for dobro sim, Hilton volume pedal to amp. I do have a Digitech RP155 in the effects loop of my Nashville 400 because my reverb hums too bad. The band I play with now has a keyboard/guitar player. If there is no keyboard player, I put a Tech 21 Rotochior before the EQ. And sometimes I use a Digitech Distortion Factory or my Damage Control Liquid Blues before the volume pedal. I try to stay away from using distortion. Most of the time, the Distortion Factory stays in my seat and the Damage Control stays at home.

MSA U12 4 & 7

Fender Blues Deluxe ( for now ). It's inadequate for steel, really.

Behringer Vamp direct to the PA and to the amp.
Strangely enough, this extends the usability of the Blues Deluxe somehow. But the BD's days are numbered.

DOD A/B switch to select between 6 string guitar and steel.

I usually take the following setup out when I play.

Emmons PP >

Sarno Octal Revelation preamp rack with M One effects unit >

TC Furlong 15" powered speaker cabinet with JBL K 130 speaker.

For larger gig's, I sometimes take an extra 12" or 15" Furlong split out.
It's all great sounding equipment.

I've really simplified my rig.

Steel(MSA Millennium)- Telonics volume pedal- Quilter Steelaire. That's all I need.

I like your approach, Mike. Half the time, I don't plug in my effects. I have lots of stuff, but usually use guitar, pedal, Izzy, amp.

My set up is a LeGrande II, Quilter Steelaire, TC Flashback Delay and a Sarno Freeloader for a bit more control (if needed) without having to reach back to the amp.

I have several setups depending on the venue and if I am playing solo or with a band. Steel into effects then into Ernie Ball VP JR into an Amp

65 watt Crate amp for solo gigs

Roland CUBE STREET for very small rooms

100 watt Fender SS combo with 15inch JBL for Church with the worship Band.

PEAVEY 212 Stereo Chorus (130 Watts X2) For Gigs with a loud band when I want to Dominate!

Emmons Student Model > pot pedal > Morley ABC switch (A is 6 string, B is steel, C is usually banjo) > Boss DD5 > Sundown 100 watt amp. For lower volume gigs I will replace the Sundown with a Roland XL 80.

My road setup with Josh is:

Carter D-10 > Sarno Black Box > Hilton VP > Walker Stereo Steel Pre (parallel line to Peterson Stroborack) > Lexicon MX-200 > 2 - Nashville 112 (power amp in) > Shure SM7 microphones

My at home rig:

Sierra S-10 (E-66 pickup) > Peterson StroboStomp > MicroPog > BBE Green Screamer > Boss GE-7 > Dan Electro Auto Wah > Hilton VP > Line 6 DL-4 > TC Electronics Arena > Fender Twin Reverb Re-issue/Blackface

I've also been using a reissue Fender Deluxe Reverb head, with a Hot Rod Deluxe 1x12 cabinet instead of the twin.

For a session this week, I used my MSA Classic (E-66), the pedal board above, and a Fender Blues Jr, and I loved the results!!!

Experiment... and if you have enough different gear, learn to use it all in a fun way.

Zum D-10 > Black Box (sometimes, Lil Izzy on the output)
120 Volume Pedal > Peavey 112 Valve King amp with Telonic's 8 ohm speaker > Wet Reverb reverb pedal in the amp effects loop. I have two of the VK amps, so in larger venues, I usually use them both.
