Topic: Emmons LG III Counterforce & model? |

I finally had the opportunity to acquire a late model Emmons LG III and this one is as new as it left the factory. I purchased it from the original owner who set it up in his house and it never left that spot. The case was used twice. Once when Emmons shipped it to him and the second time when I brought it home. It still has the orange tag from Emmons on the handle of the case. S/N is 2124-L and the owner thought he purchased it in 1998. But from previous posts it seems more like it would be a 2003 to 2005 model?
I have had 3 SKH models and 3 PP's over the years and loved the tone. But they didn't play as smooth as I'd like so I parted with them.
Now this LG III is the smoothest playing of them all and the tone is phenomenal. Sounds like a PP with better bottom end, IMHO. This guitar looks like it came off the showroom floor and has the counterforce installed. From all I've read it compensates for cabinet drop? I have no earthly idea of the procedure in adjusting it should I need to. any advice is greatly appreciated.
One thing for sure...I'm hooked on Emmons now!

| Congrats, they are wonderful guitars. Al Briscoe knows how to adjust the counterforce. PM me and I can send you Emmons` counterforce adjustment instructions that Lynn Stafford kindly sent me. I have not tried adjusting it myself since I find LG III`s to be solid as rocks. |

Jim, thanks! I sent you an email.
Chris, you're probably correct as to not fix something that isn't broken. But I like to learn new stuff and I tend to change tunings too frequently. I want to know how to set it back properly should I change the tuning on this beauty!

| Definitly after 99' due to the counterforce adjustment rod being down the center of the body. This was done after I left. |

Hey David, Congrats on the purchase of your LG III.
It looks like a twin to my 2009 . I don't know too much about the mechanics of the counterforce but I do know it does play smooth and has great tone. I have heard the pros and the cons about the counterforce but I am glad I made the purchase. In my opinion, it's as good as any guitar out there.

Your counter force probably doesn't need adjusting unless someone has messed with it but they are easy to adjust. Just hook up a good digital tuner and hit 4th E string or 1st string F#. With pedals down, see if either one of those detune. If so, you can tighten down those little brass things under guitar until they won't detune. Hint, it doesn't take but very little. Do one pedal at a time.

Henry has the right idea. Too many adjust the counterforce with the eye. It's best to use an electronic tuner and set the open strings to stay neutral.

Guys, I really appreciate the help! Jim Robbins was kind enough to send me the Emmons guide for the counterforce adjustment. One thing for sure...this guitar has the classic Emmons growl and is as new as it came from the factory. I'm just hoping I can adjust to an SD-10 rather than a D-10 which I much prefer. If not I may have to consider some type of trade in the future.

My point exactly, Chris! I lose my bottom tuning which is G7 and have to either tune to D9 or use a capo on the current tuning for what I'm losing with a D-10. |

Just another note, you can actually make an open string go sharp with the counter force mechanism. Not that you would want to but it is capable of doing that. That pesky 7th string can now be tuned true with pedals up or down.
By the way, congrats on a nice Emmons, you will get used to the SD-10.
