I just picked one of these old amps. I generally do like 12" speakers but this Scorpion sounds OK, and talk about power I could gig with this amp all day with head room to spare.

I might just keep my eyes open for more of them, I paid $75.

Very good amp for guitars too... I use mine with a replaced Sica 12" as a steel practice amp...

I hav been lookin for one of those! I hav the Special 130 and wanted to get a 65 for smaller gigs. The 130 is crazy loud. I may have to resume my search for a 65!

I have been gigging with a Peavey Bandit 112 Transtube... The eq barely gets it done with the lows cranked and everything else somewhere around 9 or 10 oclock. But....I really like the tone. I would love to see Peavey take the transtube platform and make a Vegas style amp with it.

Have you tried a Session 2000 yet, Tom? It has a TranstubeFX built in, and 300 watts into a 15" BW. It'll melt steel! Whoa! Laughing

I bought one of the original Bandits (solo series, right before the Bandit 65) for 50.00 off craigslist last year. These amps are the sleepers of all time IMO. Surprisingly good for guitar as well, and there must be a ton of them out there. I had one back when they first came out as sort of a backup amp, so when this one came along I grabbed it. I may 'upgrade' the Scorpion speaker to one of the Chinese Greenback Celestions. I had a greenback in the first one I had and it's a good match for me, for guitar anyway.

Lousy pic, but here's the one I bought:

i've got a bandit 112....same cabinet before they changed to the newer style transtube.
i liked the tone of the scorpion at moderate volume but finally fried it. well my tele picker friend did. now has a bw12 in it and it's really strong. 80watts. can cover lots of gigs and they are cheap. this one has been trouble free for many many years.

Haha... I think I heard someone play through one when they first came out.... that was a decade ago...Iirc...time flies...

I do think the better part of what I like is the voicing of the Sheffield speaker in the 112... its a very familiar sound to me...a clean British speaker tone ala 1968 Cele Greenback... not like the crunchy and fizzy new Greenbacks.

About 10 years ago I bought a bandit 65 on eBay for about 90 bucks. The guy that shipped it to me simply put a piece of cardboard on the front and a piece on the back, and sent it parcel post. I couldn't believe it when I saw it on my doorstep, but other than a few dented corners it was fine, I think a friend of mine is still using it.

About 15 years ago I found a Bandit 65 at the dump. The cabinet had been cut down into a head (very poorly), so I had to make a new cabinet for it. I put in an Eminence 12 that I already had, and used it for a few years on guitar and steel. It's a nice sounding amp and it's been dependable, although I did have to reflow a ring crack on one of the filter cap solder joints a while back.
