"Playing It Straight" & "It Ain't Neccesarily Square" are excellent recordings. My all-time favorite Jethro recording is this one with Ray Brown on bass and Shelly Mann playing drums (on a suitcase!) ...

Bob Hoban, who played piano with Jethro, has a great CD of outtakes from Joe Venuti's last record that features some GREAT playing by Jethro. NFI, but highly recommended!

Wow! Great to know about this. Thanks. This band also included Curley Chalker on pedal steel. Gotta order one!

I thought that I'd bring this one back to the top in honor of Jethro's 95th birthday.
I went to a week long workshop with Jethro in 1983, and to say it changed my life would be an understatement. Here's to you, Jethro-we're still trying to play like you!

According to the notes, this recording was from the same session as the album, S'Wonderful: 4 Giants of Swing on the Flying Fish label.

There's one song on the CD from the S'Wonderful sessions with Curley Chalker. The rest are outtakes from the Joe In Chicago LP, which was released in 1978, a year after the S'Wonderful sessions.

i had heard some years ago from someone who was close to Jethro that he actually had to go back and redo some of the guitar parts on the S'Wonderful sessions due to a certain player being a little intoxicated during the sessions....
