Amazingly, at this old age of mine, I've found myself in a jump-swing band where charts are used a lot. You know, horns, guitar, bass, drums, etc. So, if I want to suggest or propose learning a particular tune it goes a long way if I show up with all the charts. That means I sit down with the tune and chart it beforehand. Fortunately, I can read music fairly well and, although rusty, write it, too.

Anyway, is there a simple program for IMac that allows me to go in and write that? You know, insert this chord here, put the melody there, and once done print it out? Super advanced and complicated I don't need but I understand every program has a learning curve.

Thanks in advance for people's suggestions.

i just found Guitar Pro 6 after using Tabledit for many years. i like it so far - $59 works great on mac - learning curve much easier than Tabledit.
now...if you are wanting to do pedal steel notation...i think Tabledit is the only software out there to allow you to notate the copedant changes...that is my understanding anyway

i think Band in a Box lets you do that - so especially if you are learning jazz standards, it may be worth going that route as you can find nearly any BIAB file for jazz standards already - so you just pick your key, and hit print (in theory)

I switched to MuseScore a couple of years ago and I like it a lot.
It's open source, free, and runs on Windows, Mac, Linux.
Import & export .xml so you can share with Finale & Sibelius.
I use version beta 2.0 with no problems.

iReal Pro creates great looking chords sheets and is easy to use. It doesn't do lead sheets with melodies though. For that I use TablEdit or BIAB.

Another thumbs up for PrintMusic. Been using it for years. Great for simple chord charts as well.
About $90 from Sweetwater.
