Wonder to where Jim took the 50's Tweed circuit?

Are you really meaning 'to', or do you mean 'from'? Having a problem parsing that sentence.

The first (square badge) Marshalls were a direct copy of the 5F6A Bassman as far as I know. He used Radio Spares parts and Partridge transformers because that's what was available. There are folks that will argue about the thickness and material of the speaker baffle, that's how deep the 5F6A folks get (Gerald Weber of Kendrick being the most published one).

Meaning in what direction did Marshall take the bassman circuit. Not being an amp tech I'm curious to know what Jim added or took away that led to Marshall.

The late great Curly Chalker used two '59 Fender Bassman amps for years. No, they didn't have reverb, but he didn't use it at the time. I once saw him using two Sho-Bud amps and we've seen the picture of him with two Session 500s.

I got to try a Carvin BX500 on a gig last night. I'm impressed. Pairing it with my Eminence EPS-15C speaker and using the Tube mode in the amp it comes close to the Fender Twin Reverb with a JBL K-130 that I once had.

Its a keeper. However, I'm not impressed with the "free" bag that comes with it. I can see why it is "free".

My set up is Franklin D-10 to Hilton VP to POD X3 (effects only) to Amp. My main POD X3 "Tone" (program) is Digital Delay and Spring Reverb.

Jack, did you get the BX500? I had 2 gigs this past weekend and am also really impressed with it. I think I got a better sound on the second gig, after I had a chance to play with it a little. I'm very happy with it. I didn't get the gig bag, I forgot to check the box when ordering. But I intended to mount the amp in a rack, so I ordered the rack mount adapter. It installs easily and is sturdy. I still think this amp is an amazing bargain, the current sale price of 319.00 is a great deal. I used a Sica 8ohm bass speaker. For effects, I used my usual Digitech RP155, mostly some delay and reverb and I also go with the bassman 4x10 speaker model. Sounds excellent!

I think this would be the one to have.

My pre-CBS brown face Bassman would have been good for steel, very clean.

Being a guitar player that switched to playing bass, that is once again playing pedal steel after a long layoff, I'm using what I had available... a TC Electronic BG-250 combo amp with the 15" speaker and a Line-6 POD XT Live pedal. I think I have a pretty good tone with this combination while playing my Carter SD-10. My amp has tube simulation and I keep it on "2", otherwise I get too much crunch. But with just a little, it warms up the sound nicely. The amp also has the "Tone Port" feature which allows for a single effects, but I don't use it. Being a bass amp, the TC reverb is not available for download. I'm using the Jazz Clean amp and cab setting on the POD XT.

Bill Moore, a little late in responding but yes I kept the Carvin BX500 amp. Everyone that hears it says the sound is great. The 12AX7 tube, in a real preamp mode with high plate voltage really adds to the amp's sound. Many devices with a tube in them are not "real" high voltage tube preamp designs (the starved plate design) and don't really do anything for the sound.

I bought the 2 space rack case for the amp and have it housed in that. Much safer than the flimsy bag that came with it. (Also matches my speaker cabinet).

Jack, that looks great. I'm really happy with the BX500. I've also had positive comments from band mates and others. Light, powerful, bargain price, excellent amp!

I've just had mine for about two weeks now and havn't played out with it yet. However, I've sure been enjoying it at home. The amount of eq is amazing. The tube and the 9 band graphic eq is a big plus. I did order the rack for it, but cancelled it when I realized it would have been 4 or 5 inches wider than my cab. I think that the padded gig bag they provide will do just fine for me.
