| I like the steel sample either way but buffeted, it adds dimension to the sound. Doesn't using one Boss pedal buffer in the same way so you can use a longer cord without signal loss? |

The buffer amp in this example sounds way too thin for my taste. I think maybe he plugged in the buffer without changing the EQ.
His example of unbuffered sound could use some help. It sounds like the pickup is loaded by a long cable with high capacitance, or he's plugged into a lo-Z input. Buffer amps are OK, but still I think it could be salvaged with an amp modeler. |

| I used a Redeemer for a few weeks. After initially perking my ears, I found it definitely thins your tone. I do like the Creation Audio Labs MK.4.23 clean boost pedal MUCH better. |

I get the impression that the Redeemer buffer has WAY too high an input impedance for a steel guitar pickup. Too high an impedance will give a very thin and glassy tone. In my years of polling, it seems that the impedance loads that steel players most prefer are in the 150k to 700k Ohm range. The Redeemer, from what they describe, may be WAY above 1Meg. That works ok on a guitar with volume and tone pots to help load down the pickups a bit, but on a naked steel guitar pickup, that can bring out too much of the unwanted ultra-highs and make the tone sound too thin and harsh.

I hope not. I'm with Brad, I think you'd have to go pretty far out of your way to get a Freeloader or a Li'l Izzy to sound like that.
