Interesting ad on SF Bay CL. It bears a strong resemblance to a 70's era SB from this angle, end plates have a really long wrap around on the back apron though. It says "Carlyle S" on fret board, no picture of the front apron in the ad. Did Sho-Bud even make an 8-string in the later years? (they're only asking $400 if anyone is interested)

It does look VERY sho~bud made. Sho~bud was truly a Custom Steel guitar shop. If you wanted a 8-string pedal steel; they would make you one. Looks like that particular fretboard is laying on top of what was on it. I'd have to see underside and front to confirm "Sho~bud Made"....but all and all...that's probably what went on.

I'm gonna take a stab at it. Definitely built in the 70's. The keyhead is interesting. I zoomed in, and it's a 10 string keyhead that has been machined in the roller area to be an 8 stringer. The changer housing appears to be done in a similar manner. There's room on each side for another slot, like a 10 stringer. I think it's a custom order, probably for an older customer who played an 8 string Perm. The endplates sure look like the ones on my '63 Fingertip S-10. Very cool little guitar!

john...that pretty much solves the endplate issue. they do seem to be the same as yours. so i would guess it is a sho-bud of some persuasion.
