I had a pretty swinging show at the latest ASGC meeting, thanks to Steve Vague on tenor, Jimmy Shortell on trumpet, and Johnny Cox totally killing it on bass. All C6, it's an hour long. Hope you enjoy the killer players I had on the bandstand with me.

Too much fun, from out of nowhere. Johnny Cox is terrific,
loved the accordion.

Really good musicianship and interesting solos. Much better than last year.
Great rhythm section which had a lot to do with the big sound of the upright bass by J. Cox.
Same sax player but seemed much more inspired this year which was the case with all of the players. Might also have had something to do with a better grade of songs
which gave them somewhere to go for improvising. Last year a good bit of the material was E9.

Should be more of stuff like this.

Wow!! That was great!! Herb I gotta tell ya, I just purchased a D-10 so I can learn the C6 and be able to play that style. I wish I still lived down there, I would be signing up for lessons!! Lol I guess I'll just have to start with all of your books. Man that was great!! Thanks for posting that.

Thanks, guys. Much appreciated. Smile

I'm actually in the planning stages of a "steel meets big band" album, thinking about which songs I want to do, how many voices from the horns, etc. The arranger who wrote the charts for the Frank Sinatra/Bobby Darin-type band I was in the last few years and I are in discussion as to which arrangers we want to rip off... Harry James, Nelson Riddle, Billy May, Ellington, Basie? Laughing... plus figuring out a budget, and all that jazz.

Maybe if I live long enough it will break even on the $$, but it's something I've wanted to do for a few years now. I'm sure I'll be yakking about it when it's complete.
