Thanks, isn't Tommy from down under, Australia? I think that he used to perform with Chet.

Yes Tommy is from Australia...he is an amazing guitarist...I have seen him perform many times at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society annual convention in July in Nashville at the Music City Sheraton. When he attends, which is often, he always brings his fun and enthusiasm with him. I have seen him perform at different places in the US and he always acknowledges Chet as being his guitar hero...I think Chet was influential in getting him here in the US.

When I was on active duty, I really enjoyed my visit to Australia and I love the people. One of our guys retired from the USAF and moved there. He liked the immigration polices. I believe it's something like abide by our laws........

I almost forgot, when I was there, we went to a bar and they had a band with a dobro and they let me sit in and play a couple of songs. IMO, great people.

Tommy is out of sight! His speed harmonics remind me of a stand up Harp.
Thanks for posting Hank.

Thanks for that post Hank,I had the privilege of playing steel on an album for Arthur Blanch called "Too late for regrets"(Album of the year winner at Australian CM awards in early 1980's). Both Tommy and Phil played a variety of instruments along with another steel player Michel Rose. Always inspirational for me when I hear them play.

Yeah Micky,Michel is a world class player.I caught up with him in Tamworth last month at the awards festival. He's still got the "Feral Swing Cats" band going and still playing the Zum. Superb player and a great guy. I think Felicity toured with them when they played at St Louis around 2006/7. I wasn't there but I believe Norm Hamlet walked up on the stage when Michel and guitarist Stuie French played "Stealin'Corn" and shook his hand.

I can hear him picking with Chet. This is wonderful.
Even has a little vocal on it; he couldn't help it.
And a magnificent sounding guitar.
Thanks, Hank. I couldn't stop listening.
He's my new favorite.

(If you stick around, you get to hear a Beegees bossa nova, with another old master, John Knowles.

And the Classical Gas/Perdida medley with a little Pete Townsend and Fernando Sor is something you've got to hear.)

Excellent, although I could do without the pained and angst-ridden facial expressions. I'd have enjoyed it more just listening. He's a fine player.

My favourite in this genre is Richard Smith - check him out. He's another of Chet's proteges and, incidentally, from Britain.

Roger, I agree. I enjoy his playing but I could never watch him... the excessive "body English" and facial histrionics are a bit too much IMO.

It looks to me like a guitar master having fun and enjoying himself. Good on him, I say.

I totally agree with you about Richard Smith...when he used to come wirh his dad and his brothers to theChet atkins convention it was a highlight for me...his dad built the guitar Richard used to play that looked like a 6120...richard said they were hard to find and too expensive in England....the members of the chet convetion, we felt like we saw richard grow up,,,,every year he came back he got better and better...hes about as close to Chet as they come...two others are Guy Van Duser and Paul Moseley....Guy teaches at the Berkley school of music in Boston....i think i have every cd those gentlemen put out, but not a single one by Tommy... .???
