Hi there everyone,

Lately I have been noticing my 500 crackling and popping (when I'm not playing!!) LOL. I hear it with both volumes turned all the way down and no cable plugged into the input. What might the fix be for this other than the trash can? I'm pretty handy with a tester and soldering iron, but I just don't know where to start. Thanks for any help.

Danny

Dan;

I'd go thru it and resolder the connections. From time to time I've done this with most of the Peavey amps I've owned. For some reason they vibrate loose over a time.

I haven't had much problems with soldered connections but the Molex connectors have been a headache in Peavey amps. I would get some contact cleaner and spray both the male and female connections on each Molex connector as a first start.

Also while you are at it spray the Volume Pedal return jack and the Power amp in jack as they have additional connections.

+1 on the solder connections.
Carefully tap around (using insulated screwdriver) and find the problem are
and re-solder that area. Peavey amps are (in)famous for this problem

Thanks guys, I'm gonna open the thing up and get to work. If I do find the area that seemed to be the source I'll post it hear.

Thanks again

UPDATE: Just thought I would let everyone know that I took the amp apart and shot all of the pots and jacks with contact cleaner and the noise is now gone!!! Fixed another issue with paramid control as well, no more loud pops when I turn it. I also found out why that amp is so heavy. The transformer in there is the size of a small pickup truck!! Sheesh!! Thanks again.
