Need Some Help...Carter Vertical Knee Lever Adjustment

HELP!

How does one adjust the vertical knee lever on a carter professional model? (Not Carter Starter)

There appears to be a permanent stop where the lever meets a support bracket, but there is no adjustment screw to regulate the amount of throw.

Is the throw regulated by a rod that connects the lever to a bell-crank that has an adjustable barrel nut?

I've not come across this type of adjustment for a vertical knee lever.

Hi Tom,

You're correct about stop. For that, the leg of the lever meets the stop on the bracket but there should also be a screw and jam nut on a tab right above that leg on that same bracket to act as a back stop. Adjusting that will allow you to provide the travel required for the throw.

Here is a photo of a typical Carter under carriage. I don't have a close up shot but if you can download this and zoom in, you should be able to see what I'm describing.

Is that set screw missing on your guitar? if you can post a photo of your lever assembly, we'll probably be able to sort this out for you.

Thanks Lynn,

It's the opposite of how you normally would envision how a stop works. It appears when the lever drops back to it's starting position, that screw determines the actual amount of throw.
Once you've adjusted the screw (up or down) you go back to the tuning nut and make the fine adjustment there.

That is correct. That method of adjustment, I believe is used on a few guitars for the pedal travel adjustment. I believe the Williams 600 series guitar I had, had that way of adjusting pedal travel. I wanted to change a pedal on there, and remember this making me tear my hair out until I figured it out. It's been a while, but I think that's how it worked.
