I have a old freind that just got a C6 and would like to change it to E6. Anybody got a good Chopedent for this player?
The only thing I suggested was Hal Rugs C 6 Chopedent. Any ideas , but keeping in mind he loves Don Helms music. Thanks

Well not knowing how many pedals or knee levers he has, but knowing he loves Don Helms style, I will suggest one that he might be pleased with.

Do a search for forumite Al Marcus' "Lean, Mean" E6 tuning. It's got some really interesting possibilities!

Carl,On the E6 tuning request earlier in this thread, (and with a eye on Don Helms,) and the fact that Bill has a regular D-10.
I have a question or two.
How would you set up a Guitar that had 9 pedals and 4 knees? (4 Knees now in use.)
on the E9 neck?
With this tuning above? Thanks

Yes,

The suggested tuning above would be my advice since he loves Don Helms. Then let the other 5 pedals and two right knee levers be standard C6 on a D-10.

He can use the E13th portion perfectly for DH's stuff and eventually "slide into" E9th like a custom made glove fits on a beautiful woman's hand.

And if it was used, I give him a very short while before he will want to convert it to the standard E9th. If he didn't, I would be very much suprised. Because the day he happens to accidently pick string 2, 4 and 5 and engages pedal 2 and 3 he will be as hooked as many of us were the day we first heard "Slowly".

But then maybe not. Time will tell. Please wish him the best of luck regardless of what he does,

EDwin-The "Lead and Mean' E9/E6, does have various versions to suit the individual players style.
Here is one leaning more to what Carl has suggested....Everyone knows the 2 A and B pedals. I'll explain in more detail if you wish .5 pedals and 4 knees.....al

Al, Bill, has a E9 neck on his D10, so he is trying to set up a E6 neck with his extra 6 pedals and prabably 1 knee with the C6 neck.(9 pedals) Your Mean E6/E9 has too much E9 in it, he thinks. So thanks for your copedent. I will use it on another guitar tho,

Carl, Bill, likes your chart and because itsounds like it would give him a good way to play D.Helms, but he mentioned that he would like to play all the easier type western songs also. Like Steelin the Blues,The Preacher, and songs like that.He needs more E6 sound.

Paying attention to the melody, And your C6 Dissonance artice,i just read, How would you put together a Western Swing, neck, for a E6 neck, , that you so kindly talked about in the above copedent.
Something a bit closer to your Chart on the C6 neck. Only in E6?
The Jerry Byrd idea, with easier melody potential? And no slants?
Maybe I can transpose your C6 ,copedent over to E6? Am I on the right track? Thanks for all the great information by all the Forumites. You all are so great.

Edwin,

I believe sincerely that E6 and the E13th tuning I posted are pretty much the same for all practical purposes. So I would have no further ideas delving more into the E6 scenario.

However, I would stongly suggest that since he likes tunes like "Steelin' the Blues" and Western Swing, he use his C6 neck on his D-10 for that, rather than alter the E tuning or create another E tuning.

In other words with a D-10 setup with a basic E13th tuning as above plus a C6 neck, I truly believe he would have it all.

Based on this assumption, I would simply setup the C6 neck to basically the standard copedent. Then use the E neck tuning (above) for the Don Helms stuff. Use the C6 tuning for his other desires.

These two tunings will give him everything he needs for western swing, Dom Helms or the "Steelin' the Blues" type, etc. Note this would be utilizing the C neck oriented more in line with western swing rather than using it for Jazz or jamming.

By that I mean, there is no rule that says a player HAS to use dissonance to play C6. I never have. I use the C neck to play all of Jerry's stuff; albeit use pedals and knee levers instead of slanting. Now in order to do that he is going to HAVE to have one of the following changes on his C neck:

1. Raise the C's to C#

2. Lower the top A to Ab

3. Change the tuning as I showed in the other thread you mentioned.

The reason for this; a player wishing to play "resolving type" melodies must have a way to go from minor to major thirds (in the treble register) and vice versa with a pedal or knee lever. The basic C6 tuning does not afford this luxury. Using one of the 3 options above will provide that.

In any case, tell him, "carl said, try it! ya might jes' lack it "
