I noticed a lot of pedals are quite high off the floor..Is this an advantage or just a preference ? I have mine as low as I can get them without touching the floor.

You have to allow for playing on deep shag carpet

I have mine pretty low, as low as I can get them without worrying about running out of threads on the pedal rod. Maybe it's an issue of how long a throw you like, and/or whether you play with a higher heel on that foot (a taller boot heel makes a higher pedal comparatively more comfortable at least to me, but YMMV).

I forgot to add ,that to compensate for deep carpet or shag I use a couple of 3" X 3" X 1/4" Plywood squares under the front legs. This also tips the guitar just a wee bit to the rear which I find comfortable.

I play mine lower than higher, but not so low they dig into my carpet. Any higher puts unnecessary stress on my ankle and any lower means I have to work too hard to find the bottom end of the pedal travel.
