I recieved my Little Walter 80 watt Tube amp today! Words can't describe how much I love this amp! It's like I have never heard my instrument before! The tone is so even up and down the fret board and from the high string to the low.. Great separation between the strings.. At first I was a little freaked out then I started understanding the EQ and wow! I did a comparison between my normal steel amps and the LW and they sound dead comparably. If any of my Steel Player friends are looking for a new amp, you owe it to yourself to check them out.. Phil Bradbury owner at Little Walter is the real deal amp builder, a great musician and a great guy to do bussiness with… http://www.littlewaltertubeamps.com

Congratulation on your new LW amp. It looks great in the picture. That's a nice looking Zum as well. 
Are you going to record a little something for us less fortunate steel players ? LOL |

Hey Bob,
Thank you.. I am working on a new steel project in the studio that will have the Little Walter all over it.. I will post some songs soon… I love the Zum Steels, I have a Red 2001 and the Black Hybrid… Both great instruments! I also have a Mullen SD10 G2 with my ResoRocker on the back neck that does dobro sounds and slide guitar sounds.. The G2 is also a great sounding steel… |

Like so many players, I'v used Peavey amps for years and have been mostly happy with them… I have 2 Nashville 112s and a 1000 all with Eminence speakers.. To be honest, just week before last I played a show with John Conlee. During that show I was so happy with my tone I was thinking I had made a big mistake buying the Little Walter… After playing it yesterday for a couple of hours and then comparing the two I was feeling much different about it.. This is not to bash the Peavey amps or anyones favorite amp at all, but what the Little Walter does for steel guitar has to be experienced… Its hard to describe… BTW I'm not a dealer, just a big fan now... |

Wally, I use a PV Nashville 112 which I really like but, a good friend of mine has 2 LW amps and told me to take his 50 watt and use on some recording sessions. I've played through this amp before and to get to record with one is awesome. The studio were I used it just kept talking about how good my tone was. I'm hoping to get one of my own.

Tony, I'm glad you liked it, I'm sure Phil would be happy to build you one… I will be doing some recording on my new steel project late next week. I'll be recording with both the LW80 and a Nashville 112 straight out of my Hilton volume pedal.. Since I record in my own studio and will be mixing it myself I'll record dry and add reverb/delay in the mix.. Looking forward to the results… |

Wally, in the studio do you mic the speaker, or do you go direct out of the LW head into the desk ? just curious mate

| Paddy, A trick I learded working with Andy Johns back in the 80s is to use two mics... Andy engineered the Led Zeppelin albums.. From that experience this I what I do.. I put one mic straight to the center of the cone about 4" away and one to the side of the speaker pointing at a 45degree angle to the center of the speaker... I record to a stereo track so I can comp my takes if need be. After I comp the takes and have a keeper comp I bust them out to two mono tracks.. In the mix I blend them to my taste... Usually I don't even have to use EQ in the mix... I'll then add reverb, delay etc.. As a backup I record a track direct strait out of the second output of my volume pedal.. I can always re-amp that if needbe.. I record dry and add delay, reverb in the mix... Now this is in my own studio so I have complete control.. If I'm doing steel track for another studio at my studio, I send them my steel parts with effects ready to go... If I go to another studio it's a crapshoot:) |

ive had the pleasure of playing through the LW
50 and 80 amps they are IMHO well worth the bucks
at some point I hope to be able to get one
I like these amps better then ss amps

Thanks Wally, I'm in the process of setting up my own home studio too :-}
yes on outside studio jobs I always send a processed signal to the desk - that way it at least sounds good to me when I record. What they do with the signal afterwards is always out of our hands but it is nice to work with an engineer who knows how to mix steel :-}
