Its $160 here.
It got me thinking about using a thumb slide as well as a tone bar or slide as a less expensive option. Apparently its been done before. I just looked up "Slide (guitar technique)" on Wikipedia and this pic titled "double slide" was pretty much exactly what I was thinking. Ive never tried this, but it did spark the imagination. Its obviously not a traditional tone bar, but it looks like one welded to a slide (credited to Brian Cober).

I sometimes fret in front of the bar with my first finger, but that works only on low-action guitars with heavy strings (a rather non-standard setup). This fancy contraption would to better than my finger for many purposes, although my finger can cross the neck independently of the bar.
I hope this new slide catches on and spawns variations. I'm not inclined to pay $150 or more for it (especially without trying it), but I understand that it's new and will likely come down in price if it becomes popular. |

Pretty cool, but I'd like it better if it didn't have that big plastic plug on the tip.. |

yeh but....yeh but...I can do the same thing with pedals.
Well maybe I can't get that hammer-on effect anywhere on the neck.
Sony Landreth comes to mind - he fingers and slides within the same passage.
How many ways can I change the pitch of one string without changing the pitch of an adjacent string? I thinking I'd find having another choices detrimental for the PSG.
I see this being more beneficial to non pedal players.
It certainly is less expensive than a pedal guitar.
I'll get one for my Dobro. |
