Search for posts on the POG, tracking will be very similar although with some added harmonics. Won't track perfectly with fast bends, but still sounds really cool. The freeze/other capabilities seem cool on the HOG too, but I've never played one. _________________ GFI S10-P Ultra -> Milkman 40w Pedal Steel Mini or 300w Half & Half (or Sarno SGBB/Nashville 112 or '94 Twin Amp or Homebuilt 5e3)

I picked up the pedal and have a 7 day return window.
This is the older algorithm pedal...like the POG.
The HOG2..expensive but available...which is probably like the POG2. I read the 2 series has slightly improved algorithms for closer tones like maj7ths that can ring on the original HOG series.
The HOG seems to be like an optioned out POG. Same drawbars as a B3 plus some envelope shaping and filters and expression pedal algorithms.
I find there to be a lot of WARBLE when I play even simple chords...not strong clear polyphonic tones. Fine tuning my guitar helps a bit.
I found a sample b0b put up with him playing Mendohlssens wedding march on a POG2 and thought it was just into the acceptable zone for church organ authenticity...I didnt hear much warble on that clip.
so...my questions....
Is there unacceptable warble on the 2 series also
is the pog2 significantly improved over the original pog
Do you have some POG settings you could share that work well with steel. |

These presets were developed with my Desert Rose guitar tuned to D6/G, a compromise tuning that is lower than E9th but higher than C6th. I ran the guitar through a passive Goodrich volume pedal, into the POG2, and then into a clean tube amp (Mesa/Boogie Maverick). The pickup is a Truetone.
The sliders on the POG2 have 9 line markings. I number them 1 through 9, with 5 being the center line. The Dry FX and Q buttons each have 4 settings, which I number 0 through 3.

Thanks b0b...
It doesnt translate straight across but I think I came close on some.
Ive got a real tonewheel hammond sitting here so Im going to put on the classic drawbar registrations and try to tonematch.
I do think Im going to return the unit and maybe wait for a used HOG2 to come up for sale. It has better midi integration for patch storage. |

Having 99 presets would be a big plus. You could tailor them for specific songs. Also, the non-octave sliders (fifths and thirds) are exactly what's missing from the POG2. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I looked at the HOG2 videos here:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/HOG2
However, I was not impressed with the demo, I'm looking something with more of a church organ sound. I thing the POG-2 comes closer.
All in what you want I guess.
My 2 cents, YMMV. |

Great clips Doug, thanks for sharing.
I went into a Hammond drawbar site and set the machine for a trumpet sound. I think this would be very difficult without odd order harmonics of the Hog.
With the attack/decay envelope settings and resonant filter setting...I got dangerously close to a convincing trumpet sound. Next stop.... saxophone.
The difficulty is that generic Hammond sounds pop out of this thing just like a Hammond organ...To get precision instrument tones...the sliders are pretty coarse...this thing would definately benefit from midi to program it.
This unit...with a leslie sim and other time based effects like reverb would be unbeatable I think.
I dont see me using it live very much...but its amazing how you change the style of playing when you are trying to simulate other instruments....a great learning tool. Steel guitar may be the best synth platform out there. |
