What's the quickest, safest, cheapest way to ship a new steel guitar from Japan to the USA?

Send it with a passenger and pay the excess baggage charges.

Jerry, I have had luck sending from the USA to Germany by using a regular commercial airline (I used Northwest) going air cargo. It was half the price of UPS, FED EX etc. and got there in a few days. You would have to have someone take the guitar to the airport in Japan and you would have to go to the airport to have it pass customs pick it up. Perhaps you could get an "expediter" to do the latter. I also send a 10 string steel with legs and heavy case to Japan three years ago by the US Post Office and it got there fine It weighed about 45 lbs and cost $165 steve

Those both sound like good ways. I'm not familiar with the "expediter," though. Could you please explain?

An expediter is someone you can pay who will clear your shipment through customs for you. I've used them before when shipping a lot of items into the USA I'd just skip this and pick up the guitar myself if I were you. steve
