Sorry if this has been asked before, but it's still worth watching.

A little researching found this on the forum, same version, with Bobby Black.

This kid in 1953 resembles the video.

It is outstanding work on Seeds, from those Hugheyland tones about 2:30 that announce his ride.
Yes, somewhat sad if one is down to that condition.
Love Nicolette.

Such performances make it easy for me to maintain that those hippie steelers did much to further steel guitar and positively influence players.
Here's Bobby around 2010 I think, noodling around.

Bobby's playing a nice looking Bigsby in that photo!

Bobby Black is one of the finest steel players and nicest people on the planet. He was and still is one of my biggest influences.

On Friday afternoon in our non-pedal sessions at the SWSGA Show in Phoenix Bobbly performed wonderfully (as he did the night before on pedal steel). A highlight was "Sunset on the Sage" with Ray Harrison doing the vocal honours! It was simply stunning.

I believe Nicolette may have once been married to Hank DeVito

i don't think that's bobby. don't know who unless it was a quirky emmons experiment with a chorus.
red rhodes? ed black?

now i'm curious, too.
there's a vintage guitar article this month about linda that mentions buddy, red and weldon.

Yup. And later, Russ Kunkel.

Chris, I was referring to Hank DeVito. The music sounds a little like the Hot Band.

Doesn't look like Bobby to me either, but... I've known Bobby for probably forty years now, but really can't say it's not him. But, Steve Fishell should know. It was some nice playing no matter who it is.

Who's the guitarist/singer, and who's on sax? Doesn't seem to be Andy Stein.

They don't look familiar to me too. Being 1977, was this after Cody split up, and some went to the Moonlighters?

I think you're right Richard. Right around that time I joined the Billy C. Farlow band and Kirchen started the Moonlighters with Steve Fishell on steel. Probably Cody soldiered on with Buffalo Bruce on bass and whomever he could get.

George Frayne a.k.a. Commander Cody went on with Bruce Barlow and Bobby Black as "the New Commander Cody Band" they toured around with new members incl. Nicolette Larson. Darius Javaher played guitar and did vocals,Cisco G saxophone they recorded an album Rock' n Roll again, which to me was very dissapointing after the great albums he made with The Lost Planet Airmen.
Pete Siegel joined Cody as a steel player too around that time.

I can say with certainty that its Bobby Black playing steel on “Seeds and Stems” in the first video above.

Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen broke up in 1975, releasing a "live in Europe album” that year on Warner Brothers. On that album, Cody (aka George Frayne) had the wisdom to exclaim "so help me Clive Davis I'd be there yet" in the song lyrics of “Smoke That Cigarette." Clive's new Arista label was cooking at the time, and soon Cody signed a deal with Clive/Arista as the “New Commander Cody Band."

Meanwhile, in 1975 Bill Kirchen, singer guitarist extraordinaire from the Lost Planet Airman and Bobby Black, along with other excellent players started to gig around the San Francisco Bay area as “The Moonlighters,” moonlighting as they were from their regular recording and touring commitments. Eventually Bobby decided to join the “New” Cody project along with Nicolette Larson. The video above is from one of their live shows.

In 1977 the Moonlighters signed to Amherst Records out of New York. I auditioned for the Moonlighters in the summer of '77 and managed to land the gig. Bobby Black was very kind and generous towards me, spending an entire afternoon showing me his parts for songs like "Smoke That Cigarette," "My Window Faces The South" and “Lost In The Ozone," which the Moonlighters were playing at the time. That afternoon with Bobby was a great day for the rookie from Oxnard, CA. ('Very Happy')

In the summer of 1978, the New Commander Cody Band split up and Cody hired the Moonlighters as his backup band. I played with George for nearly two wonderful years until April 1980 when I joined Emmylou and was replaced by my friend Pete Siegel.

I’m eternally grateful to George Frayne and Bill Kirchen for all they taught me about how a professional band should perform, travel and have fun on the road.

Back to the great Bobby Black. He is a gem of a person and his playing inspires me to this day; it's all in his hands!
Here is his blistering C6th solo on “Good Rocking Tonight” with CC&LPA in 1973 at the Armadillo in Austin, played over a great video montage edited by the Ole Commander himself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y-lWilv0ZU Very Happy

Hey Chris,

Richard Casanova is truly a legend and a friend. We were in the Moonlighters and the Cody Band together. I have many Casanova stories, but
the word "inappropriate" would apply to most all of them. Let's just say that the wildest times I ever had on the road involved Richard, hands down. Aye-ba-ba-die!

And we all miss Wayne Goodwin. His nickname "Insane Wayne" sometimes fit the occasion but not his lifestyle. He and I played together for ten fun-filled years behind Emmylou. He was a great musician and a kind gentleman.
