The cross shaft on a knee lever on my Rus-Ler steel has slipped out of the bushing at the back apron. I cannot figure out what holds the cross shaft in,even by looking at the other cross shafts. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! _________________ http://www.myspace.com/davidagriffin

Maybe a couple of photos will help. I put the pocket knife under the cross shaft to show how far out of the back apron bushing it is. It's like the shaft is too short. The other shafts are snug against the body. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/davidagriffin |

Are there bushings or collars at the other end? _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Yes,from looking at the empty holes it appears to be the same on both ends. I pulled the cover on the back apron & all the other shafts are flush w/ the outside w/ very little or no play in them. Thanks! _________________ http://www.myspace.com/davidagriffin |

More pics. . A shot of the empty holes on the front apron & another of the back apron w/ the KL out of the way. It kinda looks like the bushing is missing, but it's there, just discolored, unlike the empty holes. This has me bumfuzzled! Probably simple!

Tom: This is the Rusler I acquired from you a few years back. I love it! Never had a problem w/ it til now. There's no collar on the other end. Don't know if there ever was. BUT,I intend to try to make one for it. Only solution I can see. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/davidagriffin |

Problem solved! A bit of southern engineneering. I got lucky, there was an unused homemade bellcrank on the correct side of the rods. I slid it over & used it as a collar. Works like a charm. Still mystified as to why this happened since one of the other KL's has no collar on either end.
