HI, Mike, it depends a lot on what you're looking for. Having owned both, the Sparkle Drive is more adjustable, in a way, as it's designed to allow (via knob) you to blend in some unaffected or "clean" signal with the drive or distorted signal. That can be really cool if you want to set a grind sound and then clean it back up a bit, or retain some of the initial attack and transients of your clean sound with overdrive on top.
On the other hand, if you want a down and dirty, switch and go overdrive, the bad monkey is a great inexpensive alternative. Pretty good tube screamer type sound, solid and dependable at like $29 on ebay. Hard to pass it up even for experimenting.
Some people look at distortion/ overdrive as a throw-away, unimportant sound. I'm one of those who sees it as a nuanced, organic thing that can change from song to song. I'm still looking for the perfect box for a variety of tunes. One of the trials is that almost all overdrives are designed for 6 sting guitar into a "guitar" amp, both of which are out of the mix electronically when dealing with steel guitar. So what kills on "regular" guitar may be lame for steel, and vice versa.

Oops, I missed the tele and twin thing, always expecting Steel questions here. For that rig, without a doubt, Sparkle Drive, unless you just want crunch. Again, hard to prescribe without more specific references to tonal/ stylistic desires. There are nearly infinite tastes of overdrive/ distortion available now.

The Sparkle Drive has become my go to stomp over the last 5 years for any amp, including my Twin ! It takes a few moments to dial it in, especially the Drive vs Clean knobs but it's well worth the time spent...
