I am wondering what the difference is between a BL 605 and a BL 705 chrome surround pick up.
Thanks |

The 605 has a lighter winding in the 15 to 16K DC ohms resistance and the 705 has a heavier winding in the 18 to 20K range. The 605 has a much brighter and thinner tone. They are identical in appearance as is the 805 which is wound in the 28K range. I've heard there was a thinner wound 505 produced as well but I've never seen one. |

David, thanks a lot for that information. I have collected three of these old chromed pick ups, and I just know realized that one is a 605. I thought I had three 705's. So, I appreciate you clarifying that for me. |

Which means you actually have a 705. Unfortunately, I've found several 705's that were stenciled 605 on the back incorrectly!

The first number of the x05 series indicated different impedances and resistances running from lowest to the highest. lower numbers tend to be brighter while higher numbers tend to be mellower.
705 - approximately 18K-21K Ohms, 15H inductance
805 - approximately 26K Ohms, 21H inductance
605 - approximately 15K Ohms, 11H inductance
505 - approximately 12K Ohms, 7.5H inductance |

David, would you have an answer to why one of my chromed surround 705's that I bought on the forum would have 5 wires coming out of it? |

Yes, the green and white wires can be toggled to run only one blade or both on the pickup. Makes it like a coil tap. |
