The Colorado Music Hall of Fame inductions are tomorrow night, and Poco, along with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Firefall and Manassas are this years inductees.
Poco will be performing with Rusty,Richie, Paul, and Tim. George was going coming, too, but took a fall earlier this week and broke a couple of bones and will not to be able to attend.
Congrats, Rusty!!!

Jimmy Messina??
He keeps falling through the cracks. Not included in the Buffalo Springfield reunions, and now not in Poco's Colorado hall of fame festivities? What's up with that? The guy was pivotal in Poco, long before Paul Cotton. I guess he's gonna have to wait for Loggins & Messina to get inducted, huh...? _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Anybody know if Rusty will be playing pedal steel? When Poco played in our town, he didn't play PSG, and when I asked him why, he said he had "retired" from playing steel. I read, once, that he had become "bored" with the instrument! Man, how good does one have to be, to be bored, with one of those? -Jake- |

I agree! I always enjoyed Messina's picking, and vocals, as much, and sometimes more, than the rest of the band! That Tele of his had a tone to kill for! -Jake- |

John, Great show lineup, wish I could have been there, saw the show on Richie's site.
Jim, I saw Jimmy play with the whole original band sans Timothy about 5 years ago at the Garden State Arts Center in NJ. George only sang but was there. Maybe Jimmy couldn't make it to the recent show. _________________ Regards, Craig

My guess is he declined, as did Stephen Stills for Manassas....we had a great pre party for Firefall last night at our facility and it a great time seeing some if the original guys including Rick Roberts, Jock Bartley, Mark Andes, David Muse and Larry Burnette, as well as original producer Jim Mason....should be a fun show tonight... _________________ John Macy

John, very cool! Nice that Mark Andes is there.
This show should be videoed or at least recorded. Have fun! _________________ Regards, Craig

any recognition rusty gets is great. one of my biggest influences on playing pretty, emotional steel.
it's a shame that, as he stated once, he always had to haul his own gear. he deserved better than that. |

It was a great night. Poco sounded great and Rusty played a lot of steel, much more than usual! His 92 year old mom was there to see it... _________________ John Macy

I sure hope he wasn't personally hauling that Leslie speaker back in the day! _________________ www.JimCohen.com

This Concert is showing on my local cable TV.
Watched it last night.
Enjoyed it much!
I noticed Timothy B Schmidt seemed to be having some difficulties... At one point he puts his bass down, then takes one step and nocks it over... During Good Feeling he seems to miss a stop, and uncharacteristically gasps into the mic... on one song he gets his hair tangled in his bass strap, twice... on the last song with all bands out there he looks like he's asking the Nitty Gritty guy what are the words to the Circle Unbroken chorus, in mid song.
He sounded great on Bad Weather.
Paul Cottons voice and playing was really good.
Rusty's playing was really good... including good Pedal and Lap solo's.
Firefall is good to see but was never a big fan (probably cuz no steel on their hits?).
I still like The NGDB, too! |

there are many pitfalls awaiting the aging rockstar. like getting your hair tangled in the strap or snagging someone's baggy spandex with your protruding string ends. and perhaps having to tilt your head back so your bifocals line up with the teleprompter, causing you to lose your equilibrium.
a friend who played a bunch with messina used to talk about some of his strange fetishes. |
