"Smooth Jazz"... I almost forgot about it. There's some good stuff! My favourite record is "Gate Of Dreams" by Claus Ogerman.

Wow, that's amazing! It's spoon-fed formula. As Vince Gill said... "it's mind-numbing"

All due respect, Joachim, I would not pigeonhole Claus Ogerman as a "smooth jazz" artist - far from it…

And yes, Gate of Dreams is one of my favorite records also. Cool

I'll bet it would be easy to do a mashup of 12 bar blues tunes or 12 bar rock & roll tunes.

Country music has always had songs that were almost identical in melody and chord progression. Everyone has heard about the songs "Honkey Tonk Angels", "Great Speckled Bird", Wild Side of Life", "The Prisoner's Song". They all are pretty much the same song.
When I play my steel, there is a standard 5511 turnaround/ ending that I use for a lot of old country songs like "Take These Chains From My Heart", "I can't Help It If I'm Still In Love with You" and several others.
I have always thought that "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and "Help Me make It Through The Night" were very close in being identical. The same goes for two Hank Williams songs, "You Win Again" and "YourCheatin' Heart'.

Yes Barry, I was just thinking that parts of "Gate Of Dreams" has elements of it, as George Benson and David Sanborn where also mentioned in the article.
Thanks for the photo!
