Does anyone know why this pocket is cut out in the body of this SD10 Mullen. It's not a conversion. I'm thinking it was for a tone control that was maybe never installed.

That's where Mullen installs the tone control and neck selector switch on the D-10's.

I'm thinking that if a person ever wanted to convert to a double neck the cabinet would already be cut out for the neck selector switch. It actually looks cut out for a neck selector and a tone control.

I believe the cutout is so long because it was made to accomodate the quad pickup option, where each neck had two pickups.

i would think more like a neck selector, tone control and tone bypass switch.

Looks like Chris is right. The quad option takes up even more room, if this is a photo of a stock guitar.
