I have rebuilt one push/pull and am in the process of rebuilding another. I have never seen one set up from the factory or by an expert (which I do not consider myself), so I would like to know if there is any info on which pulls to use just a collar, when to use one of those adjustable things, when to use the short springs. I would think a standard type E9 setup would be very close from guitar to guitar. Is there a guide that could get me close to a factory setup? One that tells you Pedal 1 (B-C#) string 5 use short spring, string 10 just collar etc.
I have, and love, John Lacey's tuning guide, but I am going to take out all the pushes and pulls and start from scratch as theguitar was not set up very well when I got it. I made my other push/pull work fairly well, but want to try to get the best possible set up.
Any ideas?

Clem Schmitt wrote a booklet you can get from the Emmons company. Or you could drive down the road and ask Clem personally.

Bobbe is the P/P expert and his video is very informative. Like the Packard automobile ads used to say, "Ask the man who owns one" and in this case, the man who builds and plays them. |

Dave, living in the area you live in it would be best to one-on-one with someone like Mike Cass or Jimmy Crawford to ask some serious questions on setup. I'd love to do that myself but can't. Barring that, take some photos of some Emmons guitars which have similar copedents to yours and follow their logic of spring placement and size. |

Thanks guys. I will call Clem today and if I need more help, Mike Cass etc. It has been frustrating for me because I seem to inherit these Emmons beasts after they have been abused. Life is tough, but I love it!
