Our singer Andrea is a big Amber Digby fan and wants to do this tune.
Is this Lloyd on this one?
'Love these Steel licks!

I found that lick (7-seconds in) in G, at fret 11 with E's lowered, strings 1,4,6,7. Athough I am guessing it's done by raising the F#'s a halfstep at 10AB.

Yeah, it's Lloyd Green. What a cool song. It's in the GTA V video game.

Pete: It sounds like Ambers' step-dad DICKEY Overby.

Of course I could be wrong........? Confused

Yeah Ray, I know Dickey played with her, but looking at the album notes on her website I see Lloyd played on the album as a guest Steeler, although I don't see where it lists the players for each song.
I hear one of the those classic Lloyd boomerang licks on there (play a note, then quickly slide up to the same note on the next lower string), which makes me think this is Lloyd.
The Steel is sure right out front in the mix!
If you go to her website there is a Steel Instrumental on the album you might like.

This just in from Lloyd Green:
---------------------
I, of course, played on the Paycheck original version. On Amber’s record I think it is Jim Loessberg essentially playing the licks I put on that song with Paycheck more than 40 years earlier.
Now, the main question was, “How was the signature lick played”. Assuming it was recorded in the key of D the lick was played on the 10th fret, no floor pedals, strings: 2 (lowered ½ tone from D# to D), 5, 7, 9. That simple, that uncomplicated.
Someone may now want to play that song since Amber revived it and they should have the most logical way to play it.

Thanks,
Lloyd Green

---------------------
As Lloyd points out the original is/was played in D and Amber's "revival"(but not copied note for note as she would have to sing it in the original key) sounds like the key of G. So the original lick Lloyd played is played right where he described and the revived lick can be played with those string combinations Lloyd described; either the lower register in G on the 3rd fret; or higher register 15th fret; what ever sound good to your ear.

According to the info on this cd there are 3 steel players:

Lloyd Green, Dicky Overbey and Jim Loessberg. On this song, it is Jim Loessberg playing. This is a great cd, I can recommend it to everyone.

'Playing along with the Johnny Paycheck version... I found Lloyd's position on the 10th fret, Key of D, with the D# string lowered to D.
I am hearing the notes for the Lick on strings 2,5,8,9 though. Anybody else tried it?

This from Lloyd, replying to Pete.
-------------
"Pete, you are correct about the strings used 2,5,8 & 9. I guess I can’t even hear my own licks anymore. My apologies for mucking this up. But hey, I think I had the key right. I hope you can use the tune on some gigs, and please smile when you play the lick right (your way).”

Lloyd Green
---------------
Lloyd, you remember and know more than any of us will ever know/remember in 5 lifetimes. So go easy on yourself for maybe being one string off over a ton of years ago. We appreciate and value every morsel of info you have ever and will ever pass along to us.
Thank you.

Thanks Ricky, and THANKS, LLOYD!!!
That is such a cool lick.
I snuck it into a few tunes on a Happy Hour gig I played this past Monday. Works great!
I threw it in all over the place on "Those Memories" by Gary Stewart!

I have spent much of the morning/afternoon today playing along with you on the Little Darlin' track on Amber's CD.
Love your playing!
Thanks for sharing!
Pete
