I think you can get one from Bobbe Seymour at steelguitar.net. The instructions are on the site and they will probably come with it too.

You might also look at the George L web page. I just bought a new pot there and its nice. Comes with detailed installation instructions too.

I've heard that Paul Franklin Sr. has PEC pots available at his website. Supposedly better than the clarostats. Might give that a try. The mexican made pots from the clarostat Allen Bradley factory are supposedly really really crummy.

The PEC's sound and feel great. I don't think they last that long though. Time will tell.

There's a new post under "Buy & Sell" selling original A/B pots for $10.00 which might be worth looking at.

See http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum11/HTML/004699.html for a discussion of this. You can get the PEC pots from Digikey online, and instructions for replacement are on the Carter website at http://www.steelguitarinfo.com/other/volumepedal/pot_change.html.

I bought one from George L it cost $34.00 Priority Mail. While I was waiting I took the back off and used contact cleaner and pumped it about a hundred times. It seems to be working fine. My question is should I go ahead and replace it with the new one? I do not think the pot was bad only nasty. This may be a dumb question but the bottom line is do the pots really wear out? What is the life expectancy of a volume pot?

Yes, audio taper is the preferred (500k). The pots eventually wear out when the brush-block (that little brick of carbon in the wiper) wears down so far that the metal support touches the molded element.

And yes, most people replace dirty pots that are perfectly good. I used to get about 5 years of 4-5 nights a week (40 minute sets). Just like a car, if you don't take are of them...they'll let you down. A lot of noise problems are caused by a dirty shaft and bushing, too!

Lube it when you install it, and then every year or two afterwards.

Why not go to the original source? I just bought one from Ollie Goodrich, and at a great price with tips on how to install it.

Thanks to all. I did try to go to Goodrich even called the number on the bottom of the pedal but they said "number no longer in service" I could not find his web site (if he has one) I even Emailed Steel Guitar Nashville but no response after 5 days. I looked at the Carter site but didn't find it there so . . . same song second verse.

What Mr Hinson said is exactly what happens. I was stuck in Canada with one that "went out" I took the brush ever so gingerly out of the brass holder and filed the edged of it down with an emery board, lubed and cleaned it, and it lasted till I got a replacement.

I'm going to call a huge surplus place and see if I can find a couple for myself here presently. Mine has lasted about 5 years of good hard gigging.
