I don't know much about old lap steels, but am I right in thinking there's something not quite right about this guitar??

For starters, it looks like the first and third strings are missing, along with a huge chunk of the body on the far side. Laughing

I'll betcha somebody tried to turn that into a slide guitar. Wonder if it has strap pegs...

Doing that is tantamount to saying "I really don't a darn about my Uncle Phil...." who left it to him.

On the other hand, it also might have fallen off a stage somewhere, like the Acropolis...

I would not bet against it. Wood does not break across end grain like that. Most likely got too close to a bandsaw.
