Sold
I'm an intermediate player "at best" and bought a very fine
Sierra Crown 12 String with 3 & 5, but I'm just to early
in my learning to work with a 12 string right now.
I have had Carters and LeGrands in the past and fare much better
on a 10 string Pedal steel. I'm looking to trade this guitar for
a SD-10 string with 3 & 5 (preferably) and with a pad if possible.
Take a minute and look at this slideshow of the guitar.
There are no modifications other than it was once a Uni, and has been
dropped back to a 3 & 5 Emmons setup
I have a 4th pedal and rod and the belcranks are already in place to
do the Franklin pedal. In fact, all the bellcranks are still
in place if someone wanted to change it back to a uni.
Comes with the case as seen in one of the pictures.
No Maverics or junk like that, I'm not that bad of a player 
The folding leg knobs have been replaced by the newer black aluminum ones.

| I just got back from loading $5000 of gear into a $1500 Cherokee Sport to earn $65. Gotta say that is a real nice Sierra, wish I had a SD-10 to trade Ya! |

John, I'm what you'd call an intermediate too. I can kid a few people for a short time, but I lack the youth to really progress - I waited too long before taking it up - and perhaps the understanding too. I *really* understand that burning sense of frustration as you think "I'm getting nowhere with this".
But I have to say, once you get past the fact that there is a couple of extra strings, the U12 really adds something and will reward some perseverance.
The extra range is great, and I've had mine now for about 18 months. I wouldn't go back to a 10 unless circumstances forced it. Give it some thought and time?
There's a FaceBook group for "beginners" - you may derive some mutual support there.

I don't think it matters whether a person has a 6, 8, 10, 12 or 14 string...the steel guitar is difficult, particularly the first two years, and I don't think the brain starts sorting out the complexities for five to ten years...assuming you're being taught by forum posts...haha
The difference between an S10 E9 and a U12 is mostly there is more to grow into. It's aok to have extra strings and pedals and just not use them. |

I'd jump on this deal in a heartbeat if I didn't already own one. I won't expand on the S12 Universal tuning except to say "go for it." Mine is a '78 Olympic and it's everything I'd want (and more--it's a little heavy).

My guess it it protects the edge and if you lay your bar down it keeps it from rolling off.
