Hi folks - I'm using the pickup out of this Electro for a slide guitar commissioned by the Electro's' owner. A couple of questions: I'm assuming the big part labeled 'condenser' functions as a capacitor? If not, how is it different from a capacitor? Where could I get a new one? Could I use a capacitor instead? Also, does anybody know where I can get 100k pots? The loose wire to the upper left was not connected to anything - I'm assuming that its supposed to go to the bridge.

Condenser is just an archaic term for capacitor. That's what they were generally called until the mid-1900s. |

You should be able to get pots from StewMac. Audio taper for volume, linear taper for tone. _________________ Amateur Radio Operator NA4IT (Extra)

I may, in fact, be nuts. However, I am screwed onto the right bolt... Jesus! |

The condenser you have is a sealed oil filled unit.
Usually seen in military or industrial gear.
You can replace it with a modern cap. The voltage
rating is not important. I can't read the MFD value in the picture, but the usual value would be .05 MFD.
That type of cap is way overkill in a guitar.
However many of those were available as military surplus after the 2nd World War at very low cost. |
