During JERRY BYRD's younger years.......
he used to UNWIND the wound strings in order to get a better 'sounding' string. How 'bout that?
He also used to practice at night in his closet so it wouldn't disturb his parents.
His family did all to discourage him from wanting to develop a musical career. How 'bout THAT? |

| If he unwound the wound strings wouldn't that reduce their diameter so that he had to play them with lower tension? I've always wondered if slack strings were the way to go when playing Hawaiian numbers. |

Jerry was essentially estranged for life from his family elders once they told him his first dearly loved Bakelite had to go, or he had to go. The Bakelite didn't go.
On his death bed, Jerry's father finally told him he was proud of his great success. His mother couldn't manage to do it.
It affected Jerry to the end, he was nearly in tears when he told me the story after a lesson one day. Maybe we have their heartless obstinence to thank for much of the drive he put into his art to become the best. |
