I have an idea how to stop the clacking pedal noise when the cross shaft hits the stop. Wanted to get opinions before I give it a try. I thought if I could find some large heat shrink tubing like you put over wires and put it around the piece where the pedal rods connect it would dampen the noise. Just heat it around there, then poke out the holes where the pedal rods hook in. What do you think? _________________ 1967 Emmons Bolt On, 1995 Mullen PRP 3x5,Nashville 112, JOYO Digital Delay, Goodrich Volume Pedal, Livesteel Strings

Not gonna stop the noise because the noise comes from a different place. MSA (the old ones, don't know about the new ones) used a nylon "top hat" on the screw of the stop. If the clack comes when the pedal hits the stop, that's what you need.
Your idea would only affect a noise if there was slack between pedal rod and the pull on the shaft. But, since the pedal weighs a few ounces and has a mechanical advantage, that connection is always under a load: it was my turn to pay the gravity bill this year. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

I rebuilt a Super-Pro one time. I put heat shrink on all the rods from just about the bell crank to almost where it went into the changer. Quieted it down quite a bit. But there will still be some noise. Just the banging of the rods together get a little quieter. And honestly, the noise wasn't that awful prior to me doing it. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Joe Wright's Sierra has a shrink type wrap on the undercarriage pull rods and it's very quiet with no amplification. I think you're on to something good. |

This is the piece I was talking about wrapping in the heat shrink tubing. It should dampen the sound when it hits the stop screw. _________________ 1967 Emmons Bolt On, 1995 Mullen PRP 3x5,Nashville 112, JOYO Digital Delay, Goodrich Volume Pedal, Livesteel Strings |

Right on. That should do it. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

The heat shrink is going to have a little give to it.... possibly sending you on micro tuning wild goose chases. One of my Sho~Buds has had the metal stop screws replaced with nylon... works. |

Works like a charm! No more metal noises here! Anyone with a ShoBud should give this a try!! _________________ 1967 Emmons Bolt On, 1995 Mullen PRP 3x5,Nashville 112, JOYO Digital Delay, Goodrich Volume Pedal, Livesteel Strings |

Eggs Ackley! And you can put the screw in upside down to have a larger bearing area. The screws are way longer than they have to be! |

Mike---you have no concern about the strength of the threads of that nylon screw? |

Jon,
This guitar was like this when I bought it... and I have hundreds of studio/gig hours on it with no problems. I was a bit concerned when I first saw the nylon stop screws, but decided to see how they worked. |

I think I have seen metal machine screws (bolts) with nylon or delrin tips for just this sort of thing. _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

Tom,
I think you can but those tips separately. But nylon screws will also work. |

Nice job, Jason!
Was the clanking noise bleeding into your amp? I haven't noticed any such noise, unless I'm unplugged or amp is turned down a great deal.
Also, the nylon screws do look like a good idea-r as well. _________________ “TONESNOB†|

The only thing I would worry about the heat shrink is, after time, the stop screw might wear a hole in the wrap and you would get metal to metal again. Of course, you just replace it. Looks like a good idea. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Doesn't come through the amp. But I play at home at low volume and it was annoying me!!! _________________ 1967 Emmons Bolt On, 1995 Mullen PRP 3x5,Nashville 112, JOYO Digital Delay, Goodrich Volume Pedal, Livesteel Strings |
