Who are some good teachers in central Austin? I've been playing guitar and lap professionally for a while, but I'm a total beginner on pedal steel. I live in central Austin.
Thanks,
Doug |

Jim's great and if memory serves me right, Johnny Cox may be in that area and maybe Ricky Davis. |

I took some lessons from Ricky Davis when he lived in Houston. I was just starting and he was VERY good at teaching. |

I teach quite a bit and also you have Neil Flanz and Herb Stiener.
Johnny Cox is another.
Get in touch and we can talk over how you want to get started. You won't go wrong with any of these guys that are mentioned on the thread. _________________ Bob |

I had to give up teaching; per schedule and such....but the rest are great teachers as suggested by the others.
Thanks James for the kind words.

I don't teach any longer, but I'd recommend Neil Flanz. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

Thanks Edward... Doug, we'd love to have you show up... our jam is a great place to meet other local steelers, and the jam is certainly the best place to 'bring out your clams'. I'm a lap-steeler myself and I'll be bringing out my pedal steel for its first outing at the jam... so if you're worried about being the crappiest player there you can forget that right now!
It's 2pm tomorrow, out past Oak Hill, near Nutty Brown... see the post in Events for more. Hope to see you there! _________________ New FB Page: Lap Steel Licks And Stuff: https://www.facebook.com/groups/195394851800329 |

Wish I was closer, Stephen! Sounds like an opportunity to talk shop & learn! Anyway, we've a Steel Guitar Association near Tulsa Ok, that I haven't even attended...because of schedules & such. Planning on it next year, though!
Good luck & have fun, Doug! These fellers can help you, big time! _________________ “TONESNOB†|
